I have spoken to more and more realtors and agents over the past two years who say that affordably minded South Carolinians who love the water and the laid-back atmosphere of the South that they remember from their youth are choosing to move inland to communities around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion in Berkeley, Orangeburg, Clarendon, and Calhoun counties. Home prices are relatively affordable when compared with the coast and with Summerville expanding, drive times to work, shopping, and recreation are shorter than they were in years past.
